Y-Level Group Show
Questioning prevailing curatorial trends, this exhibition of works by six emerging Atlantic Canadian artists aims to dissolve any semblance of a shared project between its participants. Artists were selected for as compared to other submissions—a criterion that ultimately played itself out in the selections jury. No measure of disparity could be made to stand, when any other infinite possible parameters were equally valid. Group Show is most simply a juried exhibition wherein the work was selected for their merit, rather than their relationship to a theme. Curated by Jack Wong, Eyelevel Gallery’s Y-Level intern, Group Show’s orchestration also suggests an underlying critique, an analysis, a call-to-arms, even a curatorial performance, examining Y-Level’s function, and an emergent response to curatorial approach.
