Retrospective
Andrew Forster says his work “assumes the form of art to expose the forms of art.” Rather than creating something new, he prefers to take something that already exists and “manipulate it in such a way that it might be provoked to reveal something about itself and the world in which it resides.” In many instances this involved elaborate ‘forgeries’ where Forster assumed fictional identities. Forster goes beyond the matter and the aesthetics of the matter presented and attempts a critique of the social, ideological, and political structures surrounding the artwork. Forster’s mixed media installation included painting, drawing, and photography.
