Although their work originates from differing theoretical backgrounds, both artists utilize a related aesthetic and to a varied extent discourses on feminist theory. Kathleen Sellars speaks through complex, highly resolved sculptural forms and installations to explore female sexuality and representation, while Janet Werner uses multiple painting series as a medium to evoke dialogue around speaking, silence and the imaginary, all of which are discourses that may be linked to feminist theory. Both their work has a sense of playfulness, a fascination with the exploration of unconscious formulations, and an intense consideration of colour, form, texture, and placement.
