Job Call: Program Assistant Summer Student

JOB SUMMERY

Short-term contract from June 3 to August 30, 2019

Schedule: 6 hours/day, 5 days/week

Wage: $16.00/hour 

Language: Fluent in English, basic French is an asset

Deadline: MAY 17 @ MIDNIGHT

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Program Assistant will work closely with Eyelevel's Director, the Programming Committee, the Eyelevel Board of Directors, and participating artists to coordinate the gallery’s core programming exhibitions and member’s initiatives. They will learn the day-to-day operations of an artist-run centre while organizing programming for the collaborative fall exhibition, Re-Thinking the Thomas McCulloch Museum, presented in partnership with Dalhousie University.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

and has: 

-excellent organizational skills;

-effective communication and writing skills;

-knowledge of Halifax’s cultural community, community organizations and businesses;

-a creative, innovative, and resourceful work ethic;

-experience working in a gallery context and with community initiatives;

-the ability to work alone and in a group setting;

-basic computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite;

-experience working within a budget;

-technical expertise related to computer design work and image management;

-bilingualism is an asset;

and is:

-adaptable, able to work evenings and weekends; 

-a returning student of Fine Arts, Art History, Museum or Cultural Studies, Community Development, or with related education and experience.

Our current office and project space is located at suite 100-5663 Cornwallis Street. The office is on the ground floor of the building, but there are two concrete steps leading up to the entry. We use a temporary ramp during our open hours. Two all genders bathroom are located up a flight of stairs, and two more are located on the ground level of the building through a separate entrance.
