Cliff Eyland has been making paintings the size of library file cards for about seven years. Earlier exhibitions explored the mythology of libraries (among other things) and included paintings and installation works. Eyland’s latest exhibition is about Maritime history. In the exhibition, “Ocean Playground”. Eyland’s paintings illustrate book titles in oblique and often humorous ways. The books referred to are in the collections of the Federation of Nova Scotian Heritage. Chris Woods’ exhibition at Eye Level includes a series of paintings and drawings which take the figure as their source. Woods has spent the last several years drawing and is only slowly returning to painting as a medium which he feels comfortable with. His figurative representations take images from a variety of sources. These images seem to either be in poses of authority or poses of victimization.
