Satire as Discontent
******
These artists showed worked employing a variety of different media including cartoons, assemblage, paintings, video, and photography – with poetry readings by writers Judith Penner, Donna Smyth, and Maxine Tynes. Historically, artists, writers, and performers have often used sarcasm, irony, and wit as a means of reaching and involving an audience in their work. Satire serves to create an atmosphere of openness in which we may view the absurdities and faults in our culture and society.
