Very broadly, the work distinguishes two topics represented in photographs by a rural community – family/origins, and the event at the completion of labour (ship launching). A collection of family photographs came to me through public auction; I have traced these back to their subjects in Collingwood Township. From the photographs and spoken accounts, the first film examines the transition from private property to public history. Using my own and archival film and photographs of ship launching in Collingwood, the second film traces the transition from labour to fruition as witnessed by the community/labour force. These films are being produced as part of ‘Language and Representation’, an A Space series curated by Philip Monk. The slide-tape performance extends my investigation of the same resource material and community.
