Monsoon

Monsoon is a multi-media installation which stems from an ongoing concern with redefining hisotyr based on Lani maestro’s personal experience as an immigrant artist living in Canada. It is based on a particular memory of growing up in the Philippines. Tin cans from Delmonte pineapple and Carnation homogenized milk were used in the family home to catch the leaks of the monsoon reain through the galvanized iron roof. This memory image becomes a starting point for the installation which employs audio, video, and objects associated with it to evoke the sensation that rain makes: how it interprets present and actual time.
