Food for thoughts: anna sprague

Food For Thoughts is Eyelevel Gallery’s Summer 2016 discussion series. Over meals, casual conversations will be recorded and shared as podcasts. Through public potluck picnics, artist’s talks, meals, and a picnic starter pack, we aim to prompt critical discussions surrounding art practice and presentation. In July, local artist and NSCAD professor anna sprague took guests on a traveling tasting menu through Point Pleasant Park while she reflected on the intersections of her practice and shares stories of past performances. anna discussed how food functions as a conduit, and the role of the mouth and consumption in her work as it relates to feminist interpretations of the rabelaisian carnival. The talk was supplemented with small (un)appetizers and experiential edible prompts designed to focus the guests’ attention towards their own bodies and processes.
