Artists Talk About Technology: Conference
******
Technology has played an important part in the development of the Canadian national identity: from Marshall McLuhan to Expo ’67; from video art to Telidon. A virtual explosion of artistic activity has occurred simultaneously with the impact of technology on Canadian culture. Currently the term “artist” can be applied as equally to a person who programs a lazer disc as to a person who paints. The conference featured speakers to provide a theoretical overview on the impact of technology on the arts, presentations by artists whose work involves technology and discussion groups encouraging delegates to air their views.
