Repassage
******
Repassage are fibre installations based on Suzanne Swannie’s own experience as a weaver and tapestry maker. Swannie used common place manipulations inherent to fabric, such as folding and ironing to create these installations and reinforce the domestic context in which fabric exists. As in the woven tapestry, the textile portion of this installation reflects and contradicts an underlying drawing. Through a sequence of manipulations Swannie formulates and fabric mudules into new structures and in doing so draws attention to both the physical and illusionistic characteristics of the images contained in these textile forms.
