Members' Weekly - go easy on me
Art about diaries, self-portraiture and feelings fills Eyelevel Gallery the week of July19-23, in a show titled go easy on me. Artists Vida Beyer, Emily Davidson & Susan Wolf, Zachary Gough, Carey Jernigan, Kathryn Johnson, Maddy Mathews and Danika Vandersteen will exhibit their work in the first installment of Eyelevel Gallery’s five week series of members’ shows: Members’ Weekly.
Organized by Lisa Folkerson, go easy on me showcases a diverse range of artists with very different artistic practices; the show encompasses painting, drawing, sculpture, performance, survey and chocolate.
Carey Jernigan’s piece Happiness Chocolate, will be accompanied by the artist taking residence in the gallery Tuesday through Saturday, Noon to 1PM. About the work she states… “ In the pursuit of happiness, I started to make chocolates. And when I learned about a plant that also makes people happy, I added it to the mix. Was that a good idea? For this year’s Eyelevel Members Show, I’d like to prepare several happiness chocolates and record the facial expressions of visitors to the gallery who agree to try them. These photographs will be compiled on a Happiness blog, and perhaps also in a small book inspired by the exhibition.”
Also being launched will be the first of five fortune tellers featuring original art and fortunes by contemporary artists. The go easy on me fortune teller has drawings by Kathryn Johnson and fortunes by Jan Peacock.
