Lines / I was always glad to supply any information I could to anyone who asked me politely
“I don’t know much about paint, painting. I do know you don’t need to know much; to make some art. Straight lines are fundamental to our culture, as are objects: these works are objects of paint defined simply as mere lines. Call them art only because they would make no sense in another environment. They arise out of a compelling desire to understand. And meaning, always the basis of understanding, is always a matter of human creation.” Murchie
Murchie read works by Charles Olson, Agnes Martin, and other writers. As well, works written by an anonymous author and found in a strange copper cylinder was read for the first time. In an interview, Murchie stated that there was no thematic unity to the works selected for the reading but all were little known and of meaning to the reader.
