Depression / Spaceport

8 May 1979

For this special event MacSwain has created two original scripts using a variety of theatrical techniques. These techniques include the use of porcelain puppets created by MacSwain as the characters in “Spaceport”.

The theme of “Spaceport” is a parable about the creatures of the sea, earth and plant life and how they eventually turn against humankind for its abuse of their environment. In “Depression” there is an extraordinary use of multi-media. The theme of “Depression” concerns a deep state of psychiatric disturbance brought about by economic factors made complex by the passing of time. MacSwain’s genius is at work in a masterful feeling of the fusion of reality and illusion which serves to remind one of the fragile natures of the human condition.
